Cinnamon leaf, aka Cinnamomum Zeylanicum, is grown across different nations throughout Asia and shipped around the world in the form of cinnamon essential oil or cinnamon spice. While there are over 100 varieties of cinnamon grown worldwide, two types are the most popular: Ceylon cinnamon and Chinese cinnamon, and they are a highly concentrated source of beneficial antioxidants.

Many people consider Cinnamon the oldest known spice in human history. Highly valued by ancient Egyptians, if you possessed it, you were considered to be wealthy, with a worth equivalent to that of gold. It has also been associated with protection and prosperity, and part of a mixture of oils used by bandits during the plague in the 15th century.

It has been used by Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine practitioners in Asia for thousands of years, and believed to help treat and heal everything from depression to weight gain. Whether in extract, liquor, tea or herb form, cinnamon has provided people relief for eons.

According to research, the list of cinnamon benefits is long, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, and anticancer properties. It can also help to fend off heart disease, high cholesterol and neurological health disorders, like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Cinnamon can be used in a vaporizer to help ease the symptoms of congestion or bronchitis or in a diffuser to help encourage a boost in libido or relieve stress. For massage, it can be mixed with a carrier oil like almond or coconut, and massaged onto the affected area to relieve pain. It can also be added to a warm bath to provide relaxation or relieve muscle pain.

Cinnamon leaf oil has a “musky and spicy” smell and tends to have a lighter color, and may  appear yellow and murky. It blends well with benzoin, bergamot, black pepper, cardamom, clove, frankincense, ginger, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, mandarin, marjoram, nutmeg, orange, peppermint, peru balsam, petitgrain, rose, rosemary, tea tree, vanilla, ylang ylang.
